  Browning

William D. Browning
Senior District Judge, Arizona
May 19, 1931 - February 26, 2008.

Judge Browning had a remarkable career, which included a reputation as an outstanding trial lawyer and past president of the State Bar of Arizona. He was instrumental in Arizona adopting merit selection of judges.

Adrian Duplantier
Senior District Judge
1929-2007

Eulogy by Chief Judge Ginger Berrigan

When you're a man for all seasons, like Adrian was, it is hard to pick out what to talk about in a brief period of time. I didn't meet Adrian until I came on the bench 13 years ago and he had just taken senior status. I understood that to be sort of judicial retirement so I figured, as the song goes, he wouldn't be around much anymore. Did that turn out to be wrong. But lucky for me. In those 13 years I got to see many of the qualities that highlighted Adrian's entire life.

SPENCER WILLIAMS
by Betty B. Fletcher

In an In Camera, I wrote a tribute to Spencer Williams on the occasion of his retirement from the court and FJA's adoption of a resolution honoring him. I would like it repeated here and add it as an addendum. I add a couple of remembrances I think the readers might enjoy.

Judge Fitzpatrick

Judge Duross Fitzpatrick
1934-2008

Eulogy by Judge Hugh Lawson

What does one say when his buddy has gone to glory?

I sometimes think that I could have made a second career of talking about Duross Fitzpatrick. I introduced him so often that both of us came to know what I would say. Now I'm here for the send off. But he was so remarkable in so many respects that it was never difficult to find the words. The difficulty today is that he is not present to scoff at my remarks. He is gone like a comet leaving us in a wake of stardust and we can only wave and weep as his spirit soars away.
